Legal FAQs
How do I change my child's name?
You can correct a typo or misspelling on a birth certificate by applying to the Texas Department of Vital Statistics for a birth certificate amendment.
To make more significant changes like changing your child’s last name, you will need to get a court order. TexasLawHelp.org provides instructions and forms for filing a child name change case.
