Legal FAQs
How do I get an occupational driver's license?
A person with a suspended or revoked license may be able to get an occupational driver's license. This special type of license allows a person to drive under specific conditions, like to work, to school, or for household duties.
The first step in getting an occupational driver's license is to petition the court. If the judge approves, they will sign an order allowing the Texas Department of Public Safety to issue the license. Texas Law Help has instructions and forms you can use to petition the court for an occupational driver’s license.
If you need help filling out legal forms, consider talking to a lawyer. Please see the Legal Help page for information on finding an attorney. You may also be able to have your forms reviewed by a lawyer for free by using Free Legal Answers, a service from the American Bar Association.
