Guidelines on citing to, capturing, and maintaining Internet resources in judicial opinions : Using hyperlinks in judicial opinions
By Judicial Conference of the United States. Judicial Conference of the United States. 2009.
In 2009, the Judicial Conference “directed Administrative Office (AO) staff to work with the Court Administration and Case Management Committee to develop guidelines to assist judges in determining whether and how to use citations to Internet sites, preserve cited materials, and use hyperlinks in the opinions and orders.” Increasingly Internet resources and web pages are being incorporated into legal opinions. The transitory nature of many of these sources is problematic. So that these Internet references can be retrieved as part of the opinion, a method of preserving the citations to Internet resources is recommended. The guidelines also attempt to recommend best practices in citing to these resources over more traditional legal material.

Legal citation in a nutshell
By Teply, Larry. West Academic Publishing. Third edition. 2021.
"Learning legal citation is one of the difficult (and sometimes admittedly annoying) tasks that students new to the law face. This book is designed to ease that task. It initially focuses on conventions that underlie all accepted forms and systems of legal citation. Building on that understanding and an explanation of the "process" of using citations in legal writing, the book then discusses and illustrates the particular rules of The Bluebook and the ALWD Citation Manual for citing cases, statutes, and all other major legal sources. Unique appendices provide useful comparative information for these two systems of citation." - publisher's description
