Texas Law Help COVID-19 Eviction Answer Toolkit

Texas Law Help now has a COVID-19 eviction answer toolkit on their website with forms and instructions tenants can use to contest an eviction suit during the COVID-19 pandemic. This toolkit is a joint project from Texas Legal Services Center, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid and Legal Aid of Northwest Texas.

Lone Star Legal Aid Eviction HELP Project

Lone Star Legal Aid has announced a new tool intended to assist Texas tenants facing eviction cases due to COVID-19. Funded by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation, Eviction HELP is a document assembly tool that uses a guided interview process to prepare court papers that the tenant can then file in eviction court.

The tool provides legal information about the eviction process for tenants who are representing themselves, and tenants can also apply for local free legal assistance through Eviction HELP if they need more legal help with their case. Please see LSLA's blog post on Eviction HELP for more information.

Mortgage Help for Homeowners from TRLA

Texas homeowners who are having difficulty paying their mortgage because of COVID-19 may have several options available to them for loss mitigation. Texas RioGrande Legal Aid helps homeowners understand their options with an online question-and-answer tool available in both English and Spanish.

Additionally, TRLA has a helpful guide that explains different loss mitigation options. Sample letters for making an information request from your mortgage servicer and a call log for keeping track of phone calls to your mortgage servicer are also included. For more information, please see TRLA’s page on COVID-19 mortgage relief.
